Our life motto is that adventures are the best ways to learn, so in June 2012 we were eager to try out a brand new adventure and experience, by visiting the heart of the Alps Mountains, namely Switzerland.

We didn’t know much about the country, just the popular facts most people know, that Switzerland is the holy land of chocolate, cheese, breathtaking views and the most “timely” wrist watches. As for the rest of the things, we were eager to find out ourselves by paying a visit.
I think that when you want to discover a country, the best place to start is with some history and culture, but we’ve decided to add some geography to it as well. We went to Switzerland via Germany. We drove from Germany via Berne to Lucerne and then Interlaken. From Interlaken, we drove to Paris to come back to England. We didn’t go to Zurich or any big cities as we wanted to see the beautiful country side and get a true taste of Switzerland. On our trip, we covered Lucerne, Vierwaldtstaettersee, Berne, Thun, Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen Valley. We also went to Schilthorn which is 2,970 metre high summit of the Bernese Alps.
We stayed at the Säumer Taverne Hotel, located 10 Km from Interlaken, region Jungfrau, considered to be the roof top of Europe, due to the amazing altitude. The 17th century building tavern hotel is basically in the very heart of the Alps and full of history and authenticity to it, offering the tourists a very real experience with how accommodation used to be a few centuries ago, but with all the modern facilities and additions. We picked a double room in the medieval dating hotel’s chalet decorated on the taste of those times, giving you a very real experience of local history and culture.
Besides having the opportunity to physically discover a bit of Switzerland’s rich history that we’ve never even imagined we would, we’ve also basked in the culinary glow of the land, tasting the delicious 5 course dinner in the garden surrounded by the Alps Mountains. For us to be able to do that, it was just wow!
Our holiday in Switzerland was a melting pot of the hotel’s history and authenticity and the amazing room décor topped with the culinary once in a lifetime experience and the breathtaking surroundings. Everything put together, we were confident that spending our 2012 summer holidays in Switzerland was one of the best decisions of our lives.
Hope you enjoyed the post. Let me know your favourite city or country in the blog section.
