Why Everyone Should Cruise At Least Once in Their Life

During my travels I have experienced many different styles of trips, however (until very recently) I had never been on a cruise. To be honest, although I had thought about it, I always had a number of concerns about going on a cruise – whether the other guests would be much older than me, if I’d get bored during the days at sea, and whether the restaurants and activities would be good quality.

Recently, however, when I experienced a 7 day Mediterranean cruise with Princess Cruises, I realised that many of my concerns had been misplaced. Not only did I have an amazing experience onboard the ship, but I also left feeling totally relaxed and recharged – and wondering when I could cruise again. From a ‘cruise convert’, here are my top reasons why you should go on a cruise at least once in your life.

#1: Varied and exciting itineraries

One of the things that I enjoyed the most about the cruise was that we were able to see a lot of amazing and different places in a relatively short time. I particularly appreciated that the on-shore excursions with Princess Cruises are quite generous in terms of time spent at a destination, which means that you really get the opportunity to explore a place and get to know it rather than feeling rushed or pushed for time. Princess Cruises also helps you to organise specific on-shore activities which really allow you to discover the culture and atmosphere of a place, so you can see the highlights of a destination.

#2: Ease of travel

I also appreciated how easy cruising makes it to discover many different beautiful places and enjoy your holiday. Most other methods of travel mean organising flights or train rides, which can be tiring and eat into your holiday time. Similarly, most holidays require you to organise hotel bookings and other practicalities which is not always enjoyable. By contrast, cruising makes travelling between destinations so easy and stress-free; no airport queues or crowded trains. Best of all, while you do have the freedom to choose your activities and restaurants, the finer details are arranged by the cruise ship staff – leaving you plenty of time to enjoy your stress-free holiday. I also appreciated only having to unpack once during the week-long break; a vast improvement from living out of a suitcase and moving every few days!

#3: Onboard entertainment

Given that one of my concerns about cruising was whether I would get bored on the ship, I was keen to find out what was on offer on Princess Cruises. As soon as I found out about the amazing variety of activities, I was absolutely blown away! From an indulgent spa to astronomy to nightclub and everything in between, it is impossible to get bored on a cruise. There is undoubtedly a different activity for every day, and then some! I particularly appreciated the quiet, adult spaces where you could get some true rest and relaxation. Princess Cruises certainly go above and beyond to make sure that guests of all ages and interests enjoy their time onboard the ship.

#4: Delicious dining options

For me, food is a crucial part of any trip, so I must admit that I had some concern about what the food would be like on the cruise. However, I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of dining options onboard. Both the included and additional options had menus featuring ingredients that tasted fresh and delicious, and were thoroughly enjoyable. In addition, the number of restaurants and cafes meant you never felt limited in choice. I perhaps shouldn’t have been surprised, considering that Princess Cruises was named the best cruise line for onboard dining, however, I was definitely impressed by the food on offer.

#5: Exciting nightlife

The nature of cruising is that you spend a lot of the evenings and nights at sea, and I initially wondered how I would find this. In reality, I thoroughly enjoyed the evenings on the cruise ship, thanks to the great selection of after-dark activities. Not only does the ship contain several excellent bars as well as more upbeat nightclub, but there are frequent themed parties and events that are a great way to get to know other guests. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a relaxed cocktail at an elegant bar or dance the night away to the latest tunes, you’re sure to find it on board!

#6: Experience the beauty of the sea

One unexpected delight of cruising was just how beautiful the view out in the middle of the ocean actually is. Compared to the sight of a bustling airport, the views as you journey from destination to destination aboard a cruise ship are truly magical. It is certainly an amazing experience to be in the middle of the ocean, the water stretching out as far as the eye can see in every direction. The experience is made even more incredible knowing that you are floating on a small city complete with shops, restaurants and beauty salons.

#7: Meet interesting people

Far from being a holiday for older people, there were people of all ages enjoying the Princess cruise, including many younger people. This mix created a fun and friendly atmosphere, and I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet some of the other guests onboard. Of course, there is every opportunity to have privacy in your room and with such a large ship, there is room for everyone – however, there are also many opportunities to get to know your fellow guests and develop new friendships. I definitely disembarked from the ship with a few newfound friends.

As you can see, I believe there are many reasons why everybody should go on a cruise at least once in their life. From never having cruised before to looking forward to my next chance to see the world with Princess Cruises, the experience has certainly allayed all of my fears and showed me the many benefits of cruising. Far from being for older people or lacking in quality activities and restaurants, a cruise is an amazing way to have a relaxing, magical holiday filled with fun activities and delicious food, as well as ample time in port spent exploring new and exciting places.
