Dr. Russo Sun protective Skincare review

Dr. Russo Skincare

Approximately a month ago I had the pleasure of attending a talk with Dr. Russo at 4 seasons hotel. Dr Luca Russo MD, MSC is a London-based cosmetic and dermatologic surgeon and lecturer on skin rejuvenation, cosmetic dermatology, cutaneous laser surgery and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation techniques. He is a renowned internationally for his revolutionary work in reversing sun damage and premature skin aging. He has pioneered the combined use of Thermage, Fraxel, Zeltiq, PRP and stem cells in Europe and, for over twenty years, has been the secret weapon behind some of the world’s most famous faces.

I was fortunate enough to be able to ask Dr. Russo few questions specifically for my skin during the talk but here are few takeaways from the talk for you guys:

  1. Sunscreen must be applied approximately 30 mins before sun exposure
  1. Apply 2 mgs of sunscreen per centimetre squared, this is roughly the equivalent of a tablespoon of product, or to look at it another way, one shot glass full, just to cover the face adequately.
  1. Make sure to use sunscreen that’s safe to use around eyes to prevent from ageing fast.

Now coming back to the skincare range, Dr. Russo has also developed his own sun protective skincare range based on his extensive research into harmful effects of UV rays and the poor protective measures taken by consumers. Studies have shown that 80% of ageing is as result of excessive sun exposure so all his products have been designed specifically to address the issue of sun damage.

The range of products are available in stores and consists of Dr Russo SPF 30 Sun Protective Day Cleanser 100ml – £48, Dr Russo SPF 30 Sun Protective Day Moisturiser 50ml – £95, Dr Russo Night Repair Exfoliating Cleanser 100ml – £48 and Dr Russo Night Repair Face Serum 30ml – £128.

I decided to give these products a try and see the results after 30 days of regular application.

My first impressions

I tried the Sun Protective Day Cleanser with SPF 30, first thing in the morning to protect my skin from UV exposure. I massaged the product on wet skin in circular motion to make sure the product melts into my pores. The texture felt like milk and left my skin squeaky clean afterwards, my skin didn’t feel tight at all which was brilliant.

Following the cleanser, I used the SPF 30 Sun Protective Day Moisturiser just before applying my makeup. I applied it all over my face, neck and chest area. I was quite pleasantly surprised with the moisturiser which gets absorbed quickly on the skin. I never found any of my sunscreens doing that so this is a clear winner for me. The moisturiser also contains antioxidants to fight premature ageing.

To complete my beauty routine, I applied the Night Repair Exfoliating Cleanser which removed the daily grime and make up very well. My skin felt refreshed and hydrated. This is a gently exfoliator and is safe to use every day. As Dr. Russo says we shouldn’t be afraid to gently exfoliate the skin daily and is best done at night.

Lastly I applied the Night Repair Face Serum to nourish my skin before bed. The serum is enriched with vitamin A, C, and E, pigment-lightening blend of pomegranate, green tea, liquorice and kojic to help fight premature ageing. It’s also supposed to revert sun damage. I loved the smoothing finish it left my skin.

My verdict

Using the whole suite of Dr. Russo products are a great way to protect your skin from sun damage and slow down the ageing process of your skin. Having Indian skin, I tan quite easily and sun damage can’t be seen with a naked eye. What I liked about Dr. Russo was he understands different skin tones and mentioned that even darker skin needs to be protected which is very with uncommon in the dermatology and beauty industry. After using the products for more than a month I can see a visible difference on my skin, it looks fresh and clear and my dark spots are fading.

I absolutely loved the products and would highly recommend using Dr. Russo’s products for sun protection and to fight premature ageing. You can check out Dr. Russo’s website here.
