In this Crochet Checkered Bag Tutorial you will learn how to make a checkered mini crochet bag. Checkered bags have been very trendy lately do decided to design a pattern for myself. I quite like mini bags and so made this mini checkered crochet bag. I love the combination of cream and pink yarn in this checkered box pattern. I hope guys like it and give this pattern a try.

Written Pattern

Materials:

  • 2 colour Worsted/ Aran weight Yarn/ Weight 5

Colour: Pale Rose & Fishermen

  • 5 mm and 4.5 mm Crochet hook
  • Stitch Markers
  • Twist Needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring Tape

1 Checkered box = 6 HDC(US)/HTC(UK) St(s) X 2 rows

Abbreviations:

Ch- Chain

SC- Single Crochet

HDC- Half Double Crochet

HTC- Half Treble Crochet

Sl St- SLip Stitch

ST = Stitch

Colour A= Pale Rose ( pink)

Colour B =Fishermen( cream)

 

The entire pattern is worked in the continuous round. Place a stitch marker into the first stitch, this will help you identify stitches.

How to change colour:

Start your HDC with colour A. When you have 3 loops on your hook, drop colour A, pick up colour B and grab it with your hook. Now Pull colour B through the loops on your hook and finish the stitch.

When starting the stitch grab and weave the tail end of colour B with colour A in first stitches.

Crochet over two strands of yarn all the time and drop and place yarn as needed depended on the colour needed for the checkered box.

Pattern starts:

Body

1 checkered box= 6 HDC(US)/HTC(UK)

Foundation Chain: Ch  30 + 1.

Row 1: 2 HDC in second ch from hook. 1 HDC in all st(s)  until 2nd last ch then 4 HDC in last ch

Row 2: 1 HDC in each st *Follow Checkered box and changing colour instructions above*

Row 3- Row 24 : repeat row 2

Handle

Measure around 8 cm in the centre and place 2 stitch markers around each side.

Left Handle 

Row 25 :  Leave 4 checkered box in the middle 1 HDC in each st from front left stitch marker to back left stitch marker.

Row 26: Ch 2 1 HDC in each st

Row 2730: Repeat row 26

Right Handle

Row 25 :  Leave 4 checkered box in the middle 1 HDC in each st from front right stitch marker to back right stitch marker.

Row 26: Ch 2 1 HDC in each st

Row 27 – 30: Repeat row 26

Row 31: Change hook to 4.5 mm Ch 12  from right handle to left handle in the back panel and then 1 HDC in first st on the left handle to secure. Then continue 1HDC  in each st till you reach the front handle end.

Ch 12 from left handle to right handle in the front panel and then 1 HDC in the first st on the right handle.  Then continue 1HDC  in each st till you reach the front end.

Then 1 HDC in each chain and then in each st in the round.

Row 32: Change hook back to 5.0mm and 1 hdc in each st in the round.

Row 33-35:  Repeat row 32

Sl st to finish off, cut yarn and weave in ends.
